What is Calafell Beach like?

Calafell Beach has fine golden sand, calm water and a very gentle slope into the sea: Visita Calafell and the Costa Dorada tourist board recommend it for families. The Town Council points out that the quality of its sand and water long ago earned it the nickname “la platja del biberó” (the baby's bottle beach). It is one of the municipality's three beaches, along with Segur de Calafell and l'Estany-Mas Mel: five unbroken kilometres of sand.

Calafell's seafront promenade on foot, all the way to Segur de Calafell

Calafell's seafront promenade runs alongside the sand from end to end, without a break. Here's how to walk it from the hotel to Segur de Calafell, one stretch at a time:

  1. Start: Hotel Akquaaa

The walk begins at the hotel's front door, beside the sea.

  2. Calafell Beach

This stretch is the Passeig de Sant Joan de Déu. Its four bronze sculptures, accompanied by texts from writers, turn it into an open-air literary walk, according to Visita Calafell. In season, local companies run water sports and activities in Calafell straight from the sand.

  3. Towards Segur de Calafell

The beachfront never breaks: the promenade carries on beside the sand towards Segur.

  4. Segur de Calafell

You arrive on the Segur de Calafell seafront promenade, near its marina. Its beach has a section of its own, just below.

For a change of plan, inland in the municipality: Calafell Castle (Santa Creu) and the old town.

Segur de Calafell Beach and its seafront promenade

According to the Town Council, Segur de Calafell Beach lines the seafront of Segur, between Tajo and Duero streets. What sets the beaches of Segur de Calafell apart is their area of dunes and wetlands: according to Visita Calafell, a space fenced off with logs and rope, with two wetlands, dunes along the shore and a nesting area for the Kentish plover. Almost every entrance to the beach has accessible showers.

The Segur de Calafell seafront promenade runs right beside the sand and links up on foot with Calafell's. The marina, the sights of Segur and its festivals are covered in things to do in Segur de Calafell.

Calafell Beach or Segur Beach: how to tell them apart

Calafell Beach belongs to Calafell Platja, the beach district; Segur Beach belongs to Segur de Calafell. They are stretches of the same sandy shoreline, with no break between them.
